INDEPENDENTS — a modern-day folk rock musical — chronicles nine friends living and working on a revolutionary tall-ship in 2011. Acting as a historical reenactment ship as a cover, the eclectic crew of dropouts and burnouts smuggles marijuana from Nova Scotia to Gloucester. But when their captain disappears, financial pressures force them to attempt reenactment for real. But there’s also romance! And folk music!  And while the premise might sound comedic, these kids are sifting through some serious life issues along the way – not really sure when they’ll grow up or if they already have, falling in and out of love, and facing questions about the future they don’t want to answer.

SEEKING STRONG FOLK/ROCK SINGERS WITH EXCELLENT COMEDIC TIMING AND DYNAMIC PERSONALITY AND DEPTH FOR THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

LIAM: Early 20’s (Male) The owner of The Lady Grey. Rugged, handsome, guitar-playing leading man. He is a born leader with a sense of humor and a natural ease – self-assured and magnetic. ROCK BARITENOR WHO CAN PLAY GUITAR.

JAIMY: Early 20’s (Male) The lovable best friend with a positive and infectious energy. He is slightly rugged, almost reckless, but very funny, and eager to please–an unstoppably energetic force. (THINK BERGER IN “HAIR”) RAGGED FOLK TENOR

CHRIS: Late 20’s (Male) Chris is intoxicating–charming when he needs to be and incredibly good at understanding and manipulating people.  He walks into a room and everyone listens to him. Despite his charm, he has the ability to lay down his fist when needed.   NON-SINGING ROLE (SINGING A PLUS).

CARL: Early 20’s (Male) Carl is a musical theater kid using reenactment to further his career. His attitude and sass doesn’t quite fit in with the crew. The most out-of-place in this world, he probably knows all the words to Wicked and can do a triple time step. POP BARITENOR WITH PIZAZZ.

ISABEL: Early 20s (Female) pretty, has a very fun, positive cute vibe. She is the girlfriend type, but in a very independent and confident way.  POWERFUL SOPRANO.
