Holly Buczek is no stranger to auditions, having been in the business as a performer since she was 5 years old. An honors graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she formed and ran a small theatre company in New York after graduating. Splitting her time between touring, regional shows, teaching, and her co-founded theatre company, Holly discovered her passion for casting at Vital Theatre Company. There, she assisted Bob Cline and eventually took over the casting for Vital Theatre’s award winning season of new, family musicals. Her enthusiasm for her work at Vital and drive to advance garnered her an internship at Tara Rubin Casting and an associate position with Michael Cassara for his 2011 Summer Season.
Branching out on her own as HDBCasting, Holly has raised the production level at Vital Theatre Company with her personal brand of casting savy. For the last three seasons a Vital Theatre Show has been nominated for an off-Broadway Alliance award with Stinky Kids winning in 2012. She has a keen eye for exceptional performers, a unique talent for “thinking outside of the box” and a razor sharp memory for people and faces. Holly prides herself on creating a casting environment that allows performers to be uninhibited and bring all of their talent and personality to the table.
Holly is currently the Casting Director for Musicals Tonight!, Millbrook Playhouse Summer Theatre, Matt Murphy Productions and Vital Theatre Company. In addition, she has recently formed an alliance with The Secret Theatre in Long Island City, casting for them MacBeth and Much Ado About Nothing. Some of Holly’s favorite projects include Caroline or Change for Cyrano’s Theatre in Alaska, The Independents for Fringe 2012, Perfect Wedding for Vital SummerStage, The Groove Factory, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die – In 3D and The Pirates Of Finance for NYMF, R U Nobody 2? (a staged reading at the Dramatists’ Guild) and for Bard SummerScape festival, The Ballad of Rom and Julz and Bitter Sweet. Recently, she led casting workshops for Backstage, the John W. Engeman theatre in Long Island, Center Stage Theatre Company in Westport CT and Newport Children’s Theatre in Rhode Island. This year, Holly cast her second Independent Feature Film, Haram and an internet commercial for INTEL. She has been featured in an interview with Backstage.
